Alcohol percentage: 12.7% by volume
Price: Between $12.99 - $16.99 (750 ml)
Winery: Charles & Charles, Columbia Valley, Washington
MY TWO CENTS:
Color: Beautiful and vibrant pink-salmon
Taste: Quite fruity, with very prominent citrus notes
Texture: Moderately tart, yet supple and smooth (not overly high in tannins, pleasing on the palate)
Surprise element: Surprisingly broad and well-balanced (tannins, acid, sweetness, and alcohol elements of the wine are beautifully balanced such that no one component stands out)
MRINHEARTS POINTS: 4.5/5.0
This rosé pairs very well with seafood or a summer barbecue, and frankly I love sipping this casually with friends, over some savory appetizers. An absolutely delightful find for the price. Plus, the brains behind this creation - Charles Smith & Charles Bieler - are very passionate about using only sustainably farmed grapes. And get this: the winery only churns out three, yes three, wines at present - this Rosé, a Chardonnay, and a Cabernet Sauvignon/Syrah red blend (under the 'Charles & Charles' label). They have won several awards for 'Best Winery' in recent years, and from the complexity and superior blend of this Rosé, I have no problems understanding why. You must go check out their website for more information on what they're doing, how, and why. It's my goal for the year to try out at least a couple other wines they offer: possibly one of their sparkling and one of their pure reds. Mmmm ...
My final verdict is that, if you can get your hands on it, please give it a try. I have a feeling your opinion about rosé might change, like mine was (not completely because of this one, but you know what I mean!). I'll be enjoying this at least a few times this summer, amidst a crazy move across the country, starting gradschool, and settling into a new corner in this world. Hey, wine makes everything better - at least, easier.
